Take time out
Hello, and welcome back to my blog!
Today I will be working with the Stick It Down September 2020 single page sketch:
Here is my finished layout...
... which in fact ended up being one half of a double page layout:
There were a number of reasons why I decided to do this. Right now my family is really enjoying being out and about, following the long depressing weeks of lockdown. My primary focus is recording all these lovely stories, which tend to take up more than just one page in my scrapbook. There is so much to record! All the memories, experienced by all five senses (well, seven, as you need your vestibular and proprioceptive senses to shimmy up onto those trees), being together, and the newly found gratitude and appreciation for the small things in life!
So these stories tend to be both photo and journal heavy, with small clusters of embellishments, whereas the sketch has just one larger photo, lots of embellishments, and no journaling! So I decided to use the sketch to create a 'filler' layout. Luckily, I had one wayward photo, which didn't really have a story on its own, but it was just right to add to the ones on the other page. And as there is a title, more photos and plenty of space for journaling on the other page, it worked out just right!
In fact, I ended up being soooooo glad to be using this sketch, as the collection I used for this layout is one of my all-time favourite, and it was great to find a place where I could showcase the beautiful patterns of the papers, rather than hiding them behind the photos!
I used papers from a generic paper pad for the background. I used a brick wall pattern, as it is a returning feature on the photos. The rest of the papers and embellishments are mostly from the Twilight collection from One Canoe two.
I decided to piece together several pieces of paper for the flags, hence adding visual interest to the layout. Rather than using 2" x 2" photos, I decided to place individual embellishments on top of them. I couldn't resist creating a small embellishment cluster at the top left corner of the photo.
As the layout still looked quite bare for my liking, I decided to add little sentiment stickers to the flags. Most of these came from an older One Canoe Two sticker sheet, which I've been saving up. This was the perfect opportunity to let them go!
I hope you like my layout. It came together surprisingly easily - here's the process video! I still need to do the journaling on the other half, but that is for another day. Don't forget to keep checking back to the Stick It Down blog for new inspiration at the beginning of each week! Thanks for visiting my blog today!
