A Day Off From Studying

Hello and welcome back to my blog! This month I was so inspired by the SID double page sketch, I have created two different layouts. This is my second one, which is a double 6" x 8" format:

And just to remind you, here's the sketch:

There is a process video on Youtube, which goes into details about my paper choice, but just to recap, I chose the Make Your Mark collection from Bella BLVD for this layout - it's one of my fave collections, and deserves only the most special people and stories; it's perfect for this one. Most of the papers are from a 6" x 8" paper pad; I also used the sticker sheet and embellishment pack from this collection. The small black alpha is from a Tim Holtz alpha booklet.

I scrap in many different formats. Most of the time I do 12" x 12" single or double pages. I have travel albums, in which I scrap PL style. My kids' school albums are 8.5" x 11", and my Christmas albums are 6" x 8" most years.

At the end of my first year at uni I decided to record my memories in a 6" x 8" album, because I haven't had a lot of time to scrap. There were a lot of memories to record, but not many photos, so it seemed right to make an album with short entries, recording a few special snippets, rather than the whole lengthy story. It seemed more manageable that way, with a better chance of actually finishing the album. This is one of the stories for that album.

Instead of layering strips of paper, I used one patterned paper for the background. It's very busy with all the colours and writing, but the sentiment was perfect for the story. I liked that the blue in this collection matches the blue of my dress and the blue of the table on the photos.

To counteract the business, and to separate the photos from the background, I used block colours or simple patterns to layer underneath the photos. I wanted to use the alpha from the coordinating sticker sheet, but they are proportionately quite large; so I decided to bring them to the bottom of the page, so that they are not only easy to find and read, but also balance out and anchor the layout.

I didn't have a lot of suitable coordinating embellishments left in my stash, as most have phrases on, and I didn't want overwhelm this relatively small layout with more writing. I ended up using some heart stickers and repeating the circle shapes on both sides of the photos and at the bottom.

For journaling I used a scallop punch on a strip of solid yellow paper and tucked this under the photos. I used gold Color Shine to complete the layout.

Hope you like this layout. I like getting out of my comfort zone of 12" x 12" scrapbooking every now and again. This is such a great sketch - it's really easy to follow, but also easy to alter to suit your purposes!
