Lots of New Layouts

His and Hers Flicker Fabulous

I love doing his and hers layouts for my son and daughter’s scrapbook albums. I usually go for very similar layouts, but differentiate between the feminine and masculine colours, papers, embellishments, etc. In this case, however, after completing the ‘His’ layout, I had a change of heart after seeing this YouTube video. So I decided to go for something completely different with the ‘Hers’ layout.

The first layout came together really easily, but I really struggled with the second one. In the end I used the Adobe Capture App to find a colour combination complementing the photos, and chose the blue wood grain paper as the background. It was quite dark and overpowering, so I toned it down a bit with some thick layers of gesso. I layered some random floral pattern on top of it with a Tim Holtz stencil and modelling paste. The floral background, photos and large title already make quite a busy page, so I kept the embellishments very simple.

Admittedly, this does not come easy for me, but I am practicing self-restraint… I love the look of a nice, breezy, clean layout on a white background with a few scattered around embellishments, but I’m seldom able to produce a page like that. My ultimate love for patterned paper just overpowers all attempts to simplify my layouts…

Wonder, Always

This is a photo I’ve had for quite a long time, waiting patiently for the inspiration to come along. The photo itself might not be much to look at, but the memory it captures is so dear to my heart. I used a lot of stuff from the ‘Starshine’ range on this layout.

Little Love

I’ve unexpectedly come across these photos of my daughter from 6 years ago. I’ve had a massive flashback looking at these images of her, eating her first-ever mini cream egg, in her cute little blouse (which I’ve completely forgotten about)… The layout itself came together pretty easily. I find that this diagonal layout really compliments small photos and different orientations. I used a Maggie Holmes floral patterned paper as the main background paper, which I have been hoarding for quite a while, but was happy to ‘give up’ for this layout.

That washi tape with the little gold hearts on and the labels (digital downloads from Studio Calico) have been finding their ways to most of my layouts just lately…

All Good Things Are Wild and Free

Another layout of my daughter (this is turning out to be a proper girly post…). I snapped this photo of her climbing onto a great big fallen tree trunk during one of our days out. I loved the photo and I wanted the image to be easy to see in great detail, so I printed it in quite a large format. I love working with larger photos, as I find it only allows a few options for embellishing, so it’s very orientating.

I used lots of Studio Calico embellishments and stamps on this layout from various past kits, as well as a Heidi Swapp alphabet, which was just right to go along the top of the photo.

#Family Selfie

Indeed our first (decent) one ever, so it’s definitely worth recording in our family scrapbook album. Again, trying to go breezy, and not over-embellishing…
