National Scrapbooking Day - 7th May 2016
With a weekend of scrapbooking around the corner, I decided to treat myself to some new stash last Friday. I popped into Hobbycraft on my way home from work to pick up some True Stories embellishments, which are currently on sale. I finally managed to find myself a good excuse to buy the super-cute enamel dots and photo overlays. I had about 30 seconds to make my mind up about the Dear Lizzy ‘Fine and Dandy’ paper pad before my bus was leaving, so I succumbed to the temptation of impulse buying. I was also lucky enough to find the new 12” x 12” paper pad from the Pink Paislee ‘Fancy Free’ collection online, which arrived on Saturday morning. Right now it is such a steal, as it gets sold out within hours in every online shop… Feeling rather jammy (and a bit guilty), I was ready for the weekend.
I tried (and failed from the start) to follow Shimelle’s blog throughout the weekend. Our weekends are busy enough at the best of times, with sports activities and church scheduled in; on top of that we also had to make the most of the good weather by going out and about. In the end I managed three layouts – I’ve kept all three quite simple this time, as I have been over-embellishing things just lately…
This one is for my daughter’s school book. It’s about the extraordinary in everyday life, like going home from school in daylight as the days grow longer at the end of winter. I used a 6” x 4” photo on an 8.5” x 11” layout – I try to avoid this if I can as it doesn’t leave a lot of room for journaling and embellishment. I used a 4”x6” card (partially hidden) for journaling and kept the embellishment clusters small and simple. I used ribbon, wood veneer and enamel dots in all three clusters. I wanted the title to be bold, so I cut out the over-sized letters from a darker patterned paper with my Silhouette.
Playing School
For the ‘repeating a shape on a layout’ challenge I wanted to keep the shape simple as the colours on the patterned paper as well as on the photos were really busy. I went for circles, as I have circle punches in various different sizes, so it made sense. All the papers come from the Fancy Free paper pad; I’ve incorporated the journaling into the embellishment by writing it on a circle shaped tag.
‘…Watch with Glittering Eyes…’
“And above all, watch with glittering eyes
the whole world around you because the
greatest secrets are always hidden in the most
unlikely places.
Those who don't believe in
magic
will never find it.”
This quote by Roald Dahl is currently my favourite. It’s lovely to see the kids, growing up so fast, yet still being able to marvel at the simplest things in life, as if they were the most incredible creations…
This layout is for the ‘scrap some scenery’ challenge. The layout is one of several pages telling the story of a recent day out, hence it has no title or date. Super-simple layout, as the photo itself is massive and I wanted the emphasis to be on the quote.
